Saturday鈥檚 桃花直播 Book Festival features 桃花直播 faculty, staff authors

STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥斕一ㄖ辈 State faculty and staff are well-represented again at the annual 桃花直播 Book Festival in Jackson this weekend, with four 桃花直播 employees participating in the literary event which connects hundreds of authors with their fans.

The August 20 鈥淟iterary Lawn Party鈥濃攆ree and open to the public鈥攚ill be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds and in the historic downtown state capitol building and in nearby Galloway United Methodist Church. The festival is a nonprofit event founded in 2015 by reading advocates. For complete information, visit .

In addition to numerous authors from across 桃花直播 and the nation, 桃花直播 representatives include Professors Becky Hagenston of the Department of English and Catherine Pierce, Poet Laureate of 桃花直播 and co-director of the English department鈥檚 creative writing program, Instructor Josh Foreman of the Department of Communication, and Sid Salter, 桃花直播鈥檚 chief communications officer and Office of Public Affairs director.

Now in its seventh year, the festival includes book signings, workshops and panel discussions.

Becky Hagenston leaning against a brick wallHagenston is the author of numerous award-winning story collections such as 鈥淭he Age of Discovery,鈥 鈥淪cavengers鈥 and 鈥淪trange Weather.鈥 She is receiving a literary artist fellowship for fiction this year from the 桃花直播 Arts Commission. Among other honors, she is the recipient of two O. Henry Awards for short fiction, a 2020 Pushcart Prize, the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award, the Reynolds Price Short Fiction Award, and Converse College鈥檚 Julia Peterkin Award.

Catherine Pierce in a pink and black dressPierce, who was named 桃花直播鈥檚 Poet Laureate in 2021, has published several collections of poems such as 鈥淒anger Days鈥 and 鈥淭he Tornado Is the World.鈥 She is the winner of the 2021 桃花直播 Institute of Arts and Letters Poetry Award, a 2020 and 2018 Pushcart Prize, and a 2019 Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She also received a 2020 桃花直播 Arts Commission Literary Artist Fellowship for her poetry.

Studio portrait of Josh ForemanForeman specializes in creative non-fiction, particularly focused on 桃花直播 and the American South, including 鈥淗idden History of New Orleans鈥 and 鈥淗idden History of Natchez,鈥 each co-authored by Ryan Starrett.

Studio portrait of Sid SalterSalter is author of the biography of the Bulldogs鈥 legendary broadcaster Jacob S. 鈥淛ack鈥 Cristil, proceeds of which made possible an endowed communication department scholarship. He also contributed to a biography on G.V. 鈥淪onny鈥 Montgomery, as well as 鈥淕rowing Up in 桃花直播鈥 and 鈥淎 Year in 桃花直播,鈥 both collections of essays published by University Press of 桃花直播.
