Candidate No. 2 for State Chemist/ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ State Chemical Lab director announced

The second candidate for the position of State Chemist and director of the ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ State Chemical Laboratory is Erika Womack. She will be giving an open presentation to the ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ community on Monday, June 27 at 2 p.m. in the Bost theatre. The presentation will also be livestreamed.

Womack is currently serving as a research laboratory manager in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a position she has held since 2019. Prior to her appointment at UAB, Womack worked from 2016-2019 as a postdoctoral research geneticist in the Corn Host Plant Resistance Research Unit of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service.

Womack earned her doctorate in molecular biology from ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ State University, as well as a master’s degree in biomedical science from ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ College and a bachelor’s degree in biological science from ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥.
