ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ Housing staff helping student residents with shift to online classes

On March 17, ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ released a statement that the university will deliver online or other remote instructional course content for the remainder of the 2020 spring semester.

The ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ Housing staff wants to help our residents’ shift to online classes be as smooth as possible.

Depending on where you are in this transition, we have provided scenarios below to guide you.

Need to Stay?

The Department of Housing and Residence Life will still provide accommodations to students in need of housing. Students with a need to stay on campus are required to submit an intent form on the Housing Portal. Once logged on to the Housing Portal, click ‘Housing Application’ in the black menu bar and select the ‘COVID-19 Housing Intention Form’. Housing will respond via email with further instructions.

Belongings still in the Room?

The priority at this time is your safety. We ask that all students who have what they need to complete the term, but who may still have belongings in the room, to consider leaving your items stored there until a later time when it is safer to travel. We request that you return to campus to collect your items and check out by May 10, 2020 at 6:00 PM.

Planning to Pick Up a Few Items or Check Out?

Students can pick up essential belongings from their rooms needed to complete classes online from home or fully check out. If you experience access problems, please call the RA on Duty phone number posted on the front door of your residence hall.

For students who elect to check out and take everything home, completing an express check out envelope is easy and required. These envelope forms are available at the front desk of every residence hall. Simply complete the express check out envelope/form, place the key inside (if applicable), and deposit it in the drop box provided. Students can check out at any time and have until May 10, 2020 at 6:00 PM to do so.

Did you already take everything home?

Students who have already moved out and taken everything home without completing an express check must submit a cancellation on the Housing Portal. After logging in, select ‘Make Changes to My Account’, select the Spring 2020 term, and complete the cancellation form including choosing the cancellation reason ‘Living Off Campus’ (disregard language about the spring term).

If you have moved out and still have a residence hall key,

· Keys need to be returned and received no later than April 15, 2020 to avoid lock change charges that start at $140.

· We encourage students to return keys to the front desk of their residence hall.

· Residents can mail their housing keys but Housing and Residence Life is not responsible for keys lost in transit.

· DO NOT MAIL KEYS IN PAPER ENVELOPES. The keys will cut through and be lost.

· We recommend using UPS or FedEx since those shipments are track-able and they have tear-resistant cardboard/plastic sealed envelopes.

If you have questions about any of these processes, please contact us at the ÌÒ»¨Ö±²¥ housing office 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. We look forward to providing assistance during this transition and to help you finish this semester successfully.
